Well, already the fans are fighting back despite NCSoft locking down the forums. First there is the change.org Petition. Which, at the time of writing, has over 16,000 signatures - it's doing rather well for a petition.
Second there was the Unity Rally; where over 3000 heroes gathered in Atlas park on the Virtue Server, with more protests going through the night. See the very clever composite video below for some perspective on what that looked like courtesy of Leandro Pardini.
Not only that but fans have created a new YouTube show to mark the passing. Forrest and Scurvy D of Forty Psychic Frames have started a series to showcase the game. In the first episode you can clearly see the unhappy super-powered denizens of Paragon City in the back saying "Down with this sort of thing!".
But fear not, these protests are not the only thing between the Life and Death of Statesman as Titan Network, long the go to destination in the style of WoW's Elitestjerks.com has begun a process to see if they can acquire the City of Heroes IP, code, or permission to plunder for reverse engineering.
As much as I would prefer for City of Heroes to continue as is I also, like many fans now, got very much stung by NCSoft's sudden betrayal. I guess however that we should have seen it coming eventually after the shut downs of the past games Auto Assault and Tabula Rasa.
