EVE Online Fanfest Coverage: The Footnotes

Various bits of information I can't make entire articles out of, but are worth mentioning and talking a little bit about anyway, from Fanfest.

In the CSM7 December meeting minutes that I covered, there was talk about a customer loyalty program designed to reward people for sticking around. During the EVE Online keynote, there was brief mention of this. So, what does it look like so far? The mention that I had seen was in the form of an exclusive station for 10 year vets, called "The Officer's Club". There will also be badges on the forums for any character that is at least 10 years old. Obviously, this isn't all, but its a look at what kind of stuff will be used for various milestones. Mostly vanity stuff, as expected. The station will most likely be in Amarrian space, from what I saw of the station screenshot during the presentation. If it isn't in Amarrian space, I expect it to be in the Sanctum constellation of Genesis, which is CONCORD sovereignty and thus neutral to everybody.

There will be a new radial menu to replace the current one, because the current one is a bit broken and very few actually use it. It isn't going to replace the right click menu entirely, but some things will become easier to do. Due to the way radial menus work and the functionality currently present in the right click menu, I do not foresee the entire replacement of the right click menu by the radial menu. There is simply too much to fit on a radial menu unless you take up the entire screen to do it.

------------------------------------

World of Darkness has about 70 devs on it, and from what they've said that has come out via word of mouth, development may take another two years minimum before it is ready for Beta or release. There is no current release schedule, it's still very much in a skunk works phase. There was a bit of gameplay shown, but nobody who attended was allowed to film it. They are being very low key and careful about not hyping it yet so as to not draw more expectation and anticipation than they can deliver. This is normal CCP messaging and is to be expected. I doubt more will come out until next year's fanfest, and if more comes out next year, I will be surprised. Don't expect to hear more for a while, it might be a bit.

------------------------------------

New Trailer, CCP Loxy is back for real now. Ever wonder what happened pre-wormhole collapse in EVE's lore? Welcome back, Loxyrider, you were missed.

Shiny. Also, those colony ships will be used in deadspace sites in Odyssey. Terran ships haven't been shown in game before (well no, they have, just not whole.)

------------------------------------

DJ Z-Trip threw a hell of a party at the top of the world. It wasn't officially recorded, so I cant link you to it. Who knows though, maybe its out there? (I can tell you that it is) So awesome. Shoutout to CCP Loxy and CCP Bro. Thank you for the stream.

EVE Online is going to have a comic and a TV series made from stories that come from it. The comic is going to be published by Dark Horse Comics. The same people who have a long history of publishing Star Wars Comics. I will have more to say about the TV series in another article to come soon.

------------------------------------

Incarna is off the table for this year, according to CCP Hilmar. They'll talk about it next year, maybe. I'm disappointed at being trolled like this.

------------------------------------

Some developers inside CCP built a game for the Oculus Rift headset. Its a 6v6 dogfighting game in space set up between fighters that are used in EVE Online for carrier and capital combat. It uses the unity engine, but is also very much just a concept demo. Maybe they'll make it more than that. We'll see. Would I buy it? Maybe. It depends really. From all accounts, the game itself was AWESOME.

------------------------------------

Dust 514 launches on May 14th of this year.

------------------------------------

There was a little drama, somebody got fired from CCP this last year for using developer privilege to look up confidential info and use it for their own ends. Also, a certain CSM7 member who was famous for trolling got banned and removed from the CSM for breaking NDA and revealing this. No loss, he didn't do anything anyway. Nobody should care. Not even worth naming him.

Were you at this year's Fanfest? What are your memorable moment? Let us know below!
